The intonation problems are reletively minor. Besides, I am always willing to forgive mistakes when better insruments are chosen!

On the contrary, due to the higher projective force of the modern violin the unpleasant effect is in fact exacerbated, as is that of any exaggerated use of vibrato. I had the complete Beethoven string trios on CD by the same Cummings Trio whose otherwise good performances were ruined because of the dodgy intonation and vulgar vibrato.

This is a great trio of quartets. Liked this one very much. Am really enjoying the earlier works of Beethoven. You don't get to hear these to often!

Well, I noticed no severe intonation problems, at least compared to the Hanover Band recordings I was talking about before. But it is true that vibrato these days can tend to get rather insane. I don't mind that sometimes, depending on the context, but it does often detract from the music. I guess the moral of the story is - use vibrato in moderation and play in tune. If only such things were as easily done as said, I'd be a professional violinist now instead of spending my days blowing up MOSFET transistors because I wasn't paying attention and applied too much voltage. You gotta keep 'em under control, you know

Well, I noticed no severe intonation problems with the Hanover Band, at least compared to the Cummings Trio recordings I was talking about (including the pf quartets)!
