Last night:

Bruckner: Symphony No. 9 (Bernstein)

The scherzo was a bit slow for me, but the rest of the work was superlative.

Taking a short break from Elijah, and currently listening to Handel's Messiah by Trevor Pinnock.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - John 3:16

They sound wonderful on the Pleyel.

This morning:
Tchaikovsky: "Marche slave," Op 31
Schubert/Liszt: "Grande Marche"
Verdi: "Aida", Triumphal March

For some reason I thought it was the 3rd month of the year.

I am very familiar with Marche Slave and once saw the opera Aida. Here is another march that I like:

Now I am listening to Harry Christophers' Sixteen's album A New Heaven. Track list:

I have this in my collection but haven't played it in a year or so.

Ludwig van Beethoven

This morning:
Susato: "The Danserye" (1551)
Buxtehude: Violin and Viola da gamba Sonata in F, Op 2/7
Bach: Orchestra Suite #3 in D, BWV 1068
Air (on the G string)
Orch, Leopold Stokowski

Ok, two of the three "B"'s isn't bad.

Beethoven, Piano Sonata Opus 22 (Brendel).
One of my all-time favourites - and Beethoven was pleased with it too. "This sonata washes itself" he stated. The German idiom might translate as: "This sonata takes the cake!" (In a good sense.)

I've had two helpings. I played it again today. (Or rather listened to it.)

This morning:
J F Haydn: Piano Trio #28 in D, H XV:16
M Haydn: Symphony No. 37

I wonder if Joseph and Michael played hide and seek very often.
