Thanks for letting me know. I knew that Liszt did piano transcriptions but I didn't remember of what.

Hmmm, feels like the 3rd month of the year already.
I realize I'm a week late to this party, but do you remember who the performer was that you listened to of the Rákóczy March? It seems on YouTube that there are many performers and some have their own arrangements. Thanks.

He transcribed a lot, around half his output (400 out of 800 works) are arrangements of other composers' music. His transcription of the Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique is also wonderful - it was said that when he played it, it surpassed the effects of a full orchestra!

I heard that he had trouble with the 4th movement of Beethoven's Ninth, that he had to use two pianos at first and then finally got it down to one piano. The 7th I posted is performed by Claudio Colombo. I got his download of the 4th movement of the Ninth and love it, it is fantastic. I bought the whole Liszt/Beethoven Ninth on CD and did not like it as much as Claudio's.

              This morning:
Rózsa: "Hungarian Peasant Song and Dance," Op 5
              Liszt: "Hungarian Fantasia"

              Okay, that made me Hungary.

Beethoven's Minuets and German dances and contratanza.
Only for listening purposes, I might add, because I've just had a knee replacement.

Sounds like just what the doctor ordered! Have a speedy recovery Michael.

Thanks for letting me know that, Peter. I had no idea he had done so many transcriptions. I still have a lot to learn!

Then we have the reverse where a piano work is orchestrated such as Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
