Beethoven in films and tv series thread

Post where you spot his music being played or he gets a mention!

I am just watching Catherine Cookson's The Moth and a young woman is lauded as "an exponent on the pianoforte." She plays something very fast by Ludwig ( I think it is one of his variations- anyone know which one it is? I have heard it lots, but always forget it's opus no etc)- I think to rebel a bit She gets a look from the fogeys, and then launches into the Waldstein...

The scene begins at roughly 5:50

    It's Beethoven's capriccio in G - 'rage over a lost penny'
    'Man know thyself'

Ah thank you Peter! Now that is rather fitting this character played that as they had been out looking for their sister who had ran off in the estate grounds to look at the Moon (she has learning difficulties) beforehand and they were worried the toffs would get wind of it. The sister being a bad penny and something to hide away.

Oh and there is another Beethoven link to this programme- the main character Robert, is played by Jack Davenport, who played Prince Lobkowitz in Eroica.

Op.131 in Band of Brothers. Though to leave it hanging with a cutoff to one of the greatest downbeats in music is just cruel.

Thanks Hal- I'll have a look.

Back to Catherine Cookson- when she sat at the piano I just KNEW she was gonna play Beethoven!
