      I would have to agree.

It's better than this thing which I saw in Vienna a few years ago:

(I am referring to the actual frieze - not the video or the music!)

          .

You're obviously not a fan of the Secessionists Michael - I like the Klimt Frieze! The new monument though is awful.

I find this frieze quite a monstrosity- it's ugly and how it is supposed to "celebrate" Beethoven completely eludes me. Why not paint scenes of Ludwig himself?! It could have been beautiful- like scenes of the Rheine, Bonn, Baden, him composing etc. Instead Klimt painted all those wierd unnattractive naked bodies and garish colours...ugh.

I don't like either. The frieze looks more like a celebration of Picasso, whom do not care for.

I agree, with the Chopin painting, it's lovely, something I would actually have hanging in a room.

The Beethoven sculpture is ghastly though. I dare say I could have done better myself.

                        Much more realistic.

When the statue of Queen Victoria in our town started to look rather grimy and crapped on by pigeons, I raised the issue with the town mayor, who then passed it on to the appropriate Council department who had it nicely cleaned up.

Mention of Queen Victoria reminds me of an amusing incident (or accident) that occurred when she attended the unveiling of the original Bonn monument in 1845 or so.
The Queen and her attendants were facing down the Munsterplatz with their backs to what is now the Bonn Post Office. When the statue was unveiled, they were treated to a lovely view of Ludwig's behind.

Everybody had either not known or completely forgotten which way Beethoven was facing!

That would be Beethoven's gesture to the nobility !
