Bavarian State Opera 1945-46 Prinzregenten Theatre Fidelio Beethoven Program. Two programs, one in English, other German. The English version was licensed through the Military Government Information Control dated 1945-46 and gives a synopsis of the story. The German version is dated Munich, November 15, 1945. The only difference between the two is: two characters, the minister and one prisoner is played by different individuals. Excellent condition.

How nice Harvey! Your programme is even older than mine!
However I got a postcard from Bonn dating from 1900 the other day at the sum of just 99p and 95p postage. It is in excellent condition!

I keep thinking that you're misspelling program, but then I remember you are in England.

      Nice postcard though!

        I am more's the pity!

        Nice postcard though! :
Yes it is, nice to see his house as it was in 1900! It hadn't been that long a museum to him then- opened in 1889.

Ah, that is a fine postcard!

My spell checker wants me to spell words the way they do in England on this and other sites. Maybe it's because the sites I post to are based in England? This one and StandardShift.com are.

My Bavarian State Opera 1945-46 Prinzregenten Theatre Fidelio Beethoven program arrived yesterday. The English program has an interesting statement about the Fidelio opera:
According to Richard Wagner, modern opera (or music drama) originated with the intensely dramatic prison scene of the second act.
A turning point in opera, but I don't have the knowledge of opera to really understand it other than it seems perhaps opera was not as dramatic before Fidelio?

I don't know- never seen Fidelio, just clips on you tube, same goes for any other opera- mostly I just hear some arias on classic FM and have some of Mozart's on CDs. Never been to an opera so I cannot judge one way or another.

I can only highly recommend the 1978 Bernstein Fidelio DVD to you. It is a treasure and I am certain that you would love it.

Look what I got today in the second hand bookshop for £2!!!

I proudly showed it to two Germans on the bus!

P.S it is vintage; possibly from 1870! That was the first publication.
Sorry for slightly blurry images- done on my phone- really must get batteries for the Canon camera my friend gave me!

It plays Ode to Joy. I took a video of it playing but for some reason photobucket would only link it as a picture and not a video.
