Michael, wouldn't it be the same if you heard his first symphony instead?

Symphony is a common noun and 'first' is an adjective. Hence...

Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 2 Op. 2 No. 2

I note that Frankli named bits of this work in the "Humour" thread, to which I would chose to add its first movement.

I love the Sea Pictures - first came across them with the remake of Ken Russell's 'Elgar'.

Beethoven - String Quintets and Fragments - Endellion String Quartet and David Adams
                              Op. 4
                              Op. 29
                              Hess 40
                              Op. 137

I bought this disc for Hess 40. The only other recording I know of is on the Brilliant complete Beethoven set, which I don't have, so this is a new work for me. Very enjoyable prelude and fugue fragment. So now I've heard a new (for me) Beethoven work this year. New Year's resolution complete!

Bach - Rediscovered Wind Concertos - Sergio Azzolini/Kammerakademie Potsdam
Concerto for 2 oboes, bassoon, strings, and B.C., after BWV 42 and BWV 249a
Concerto for bassoon, strings, oboe d'amore di ripieno, and B.C., after BWV 169, BWV 49, and BWV 1053
Concerto for oboe, strings, and B.C., after BWV 1056
                              BWV 1040

Some interesting things on this disc. The thing about the Kammerakademie Potsdam is that they play on both modern and period instruments, and I wish they made it clear on the case which were used. Period for this disc, as I was hoping!
