    String quartett op.130, Cavatine orchestrated

After I have set the last 3 piano sonatas for orchestra, I tried to do the same yesterday with the Cavatina from op. 130.

I don't know about you, but I think it just sounds wonderful.
Beethoven said he could not think of this movement without shedding a tear...

        Hi Peter,
I listened to this old recording from Furtwangler, but it does not impress me to much. I think woodwinds are essential for the beautiful intimacy of this piece and that's what I tried to express in my version (I just made some further improvements regarding the balance of the instruements)

I load the notes of a midi version to the strings systems of my Finale notation software and from there I copy or move the notes to the woodwinds or other instruments as I feel it fitting. Then I try to phrase the notes, try to get the right volume of the single instruments and the right expression - a very satisfying task ... Right now I work on the quartett op. 135 and will present it soon ... :-)

By now I orchestrated also mov. 1, 2 and 4! Here are the two little jewels of movements 2 and 4:

              Presto:

These were the movements which had to be repeated at the first performance of this quartett in 1826. How do you view the quartett op. 130? I must admitt that so far this had been the quartett which I liked the least of his late quartetts. I loved only the Cavatina and the development of the first movement. But now through the process of orchestrating this quartett has become one of my favourites!

              Enjoy!
