I heard this on Beethoven Only radio station last night and liked it a lot, so looked it up on wiki and you tube today. He was 12 when he composed this- 12!

I could tell it was an earlier one but not that that early- already there is his own style in there. I can imagine this impressed a few people at the time.

I found it on you tube- sounds like a harpsichord/clavier being played- what do you folks think the instrument is?

Yes pretty amazing - another remarkable early work by a composer is Korngold's Sinfonietta written when he was just 15. Here's the 2nd movt:

This is actually the very earliest work by Beethoven that has survived. Very few variations were written in the minor key at that time so it certainly gives a taste of what was to come.

Well that is an impressive work for a 15 year old!
