          B's variations on a theme of Salieri's. One of the best of his "stand-alone" piano variations - witty and beautiful - and based on a fairly tuneless melody. Beethoven seemed to prefer neutral tunes for his variations - in fact, he wrote many skeletal melodies himself for that purpose.

          There are a number of versions on YouTube:

              The Lark Ascending- Ralph Vaughan Williams. This music is the heart of England.
              He is the greatest English composer in my opinion and hugely unnderrated!

                  Beethoven, Adagio, Sonata No 3 in C Major.

                  God, the adagio of this sonata is so hauntingly beautiful! I'm listening to it by candlelight and its blowing a gale and raining outside, ah what atmosphere...

                      I've had two feasts tonight; one gastronomic, the other musical. The one that counts:
                      Haydn string quartets Op. 9 and Op. 77 ("Lobkowitz");
                      Beethoven string quartets N° 1 (Op. 18) and N° 10 (Op. 74, the "Harp").
                      The two great masters of the genre.

                      And my final listening: Beethoven piano sonata N° 26 (Les Adieux).

                        How lovely! The sun is shining on this beautiful Christmas morn, I'm busy in the kitchen listening to Beethoven's Symphony no. 6.

                              In our park, by the bridge spanning the river, there is a big notice, ''Don't feed the pigeons'', but of course where ducks are being fed there are the pigeons.
