    Salomon and Beethoven

Here's something I just learned about Johann Peter Salomon, the impresario who brought Haydn to London in 1790 (remember: Haydn stopped in Bonn both coming and going, and met Beethoven both times).

Salomon was born in the very same house in which Beethoven was born! (Bonngasse 20, Bonn)! But in 1745 (so they weren't competing for that attic space! LOL). Salomon was a distinguished violinist in his early years in Germany and made his London debut in Covent Garden in 1781.

I found this tidbit in Haydn: His Life and Music by Landon and Jones, page 229. What a small world it was, even then!

That is interesting - no plaque though for Salomon, in fact I don't know that the Beethovenhaus even mention it.
