Interesting first night yesterday with a coupling of Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Lutosławski's Variations on a Theme by Paganini - the last work was quite thrilling and unknown to me and it is the first time it was played at the proms. Excellent performances from Stephen Hough.

Free Tickets Available

With Peter's permission I am giving away two tickets for this concert. I was lucky to obtain four tickets in section O in the stalls, but the couple we were going with are now unable to attend. I wouldn't want them to go to waste so if you are able to go on Sunday 11 August, starting at 19:30, Royal Albert Hall (Prom 38) then the first person to private message me can have them. Remarkable performance by the 24 year old Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii of Rachmaninov's 2nd piano concerto -all the more so because he is blind. As an encore he played Liszt's dazzling 'La campanella' - Nielsen's 4th symphony concluded the programme.

Another sensational prom last night with Beethoven's 7th followed by a stunning dance performance on stage of Manuel da falla's 'The three cornered hat' with the Antonio Márquez Company. The de Falla begins at about 42'50 in the following - you will be amazed!!
