    Bach - Harpsichord Concertos, BWV 904, 971, 1052-1065 - Bob van Asperen/Melante Amsterdam

Nice recordings, but I think Trevor Pinnock has the best recorded set of Bach concertos. The Asperen set does include the rare BWV 1059, however (reconstruction though it may be).

                                Beethoven's 5th Symphony (Bohm - 1970s)

I rarely listen to this version but it must be the most "beautiful" Fifth ever recorded. I put it on when I get tired of Carlos Kleiber and all the heaven-stormers.

Bohm emphasises the lyrical side of this work (which does exist outside the second movement) and yet manages to make it exciting. And - a big plus for me - he omits the exposition repeat in the final movement. Practically every conductor on earth leaves it in, resulting in an overdose of C major.

Anyway, it's all Beethoven's fault because he couldn't make up his mind about the repeat in the third movement. But I'll forgive him this once.
