A few pieces for viola and piano, recorded by Paul Coletti and Leslie Howard:
Beethoven - Notturno, Op. 42 (arranged by Franz Xaver Kleinheinz)
Mendelssohn - Sonata for viola and piano in C minor
Schumann - Marchenbilder, Op. 113
Fine pieces all, and very well played here.
I kind of feel sorry for the poor viola. Everyone wants to play the violin or the cello (myself included). But it has a sound all its own, for sure. Still, my favorite uses of the viola always seem to see it paired with the violin, such as in Haydn's 6 sonatas for violin and viola or Mozart's wonderful Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola, and orchestra.
