      This morning:
Borodin: In the Steppes of Central Asia (This recording that I heard on the radio seemed a bit rushed)
      Glazunov: Sea, Op 28

Also caught a bit of the first movement of Bruch's Double piano concerto.

A few pieces for viola and piano, recorded by Paul Coletti and Leslie Howard:

Beethoven - Notturno, Op. 42 (arranged by Franz Xaver Kleinheinz)
Mendelssohn - Sonata for viola and piano in C minor
                          Schumann - Marchenbilder, Op. 113

Fine pieces all, and very well played here.

I kind of feel sorry for the poor viola. Everyone wants to play the violin or the cello (myself included). But it has a sound all its own, for sure. Still, my favorite uses of the viola always seem to see it paired with the violin, such as in Haydn's 6 sonatas for violin and viola or Mozart's wonderful Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola, and orchestra.

Wonderful indeed, specially the first movement. Violists are lucky because it's easier for them to find a job. Hindemith was an accomplished viola player.

Yes and Beethoven played Viola as well. Take up Viola, horn or double-bass if you want to be in demand for jobs!

Listening to Mahler symphony no.7 and Das lied von der Erde.
