The Petrushka website of the piano festival Ruhr.

To some of you guys, this place may be interesting. As an example of the kind of stuff in it, the following link:

    http://www.petruschka-klavierfestiva...0&lang=2&pdt=4

I knew Debussy had been present at the Firebird premiere and that, according to someone, while listening to the orchestra, he had smirked (not sure if this is the correct word), though the only one who could have known the meaning of his smile was Debussy himself!

Trying to know if he had heard the Sacre played by an orchestra, I googled with the string 'Debussy Firebird' and found the above link. However, I cannot find out if he did (he and Stravinsky played on the piano an unfinished version a year before the premiere; the former played the bass). What he did hear was the Petrushka premiere at the Théâtre du Châtelet. In that page, you will see page one of the Symphonies of Wind Instruments full score autograph.

I think it would not be a bad idea that of a thread where people with facilities for doing so would post autographs from the great masters of music. I, for example, have several of them from the B minor Mass but, unfortunately, do not have a scanner (not by Anna Magdalena but by Bach himself).

Thanks for that website Enrique - it looks very interesting and I'll have a proper look at it over the weekend. The Beethovenhaus does have a very good digital archive of autographs etc..

Oh yes... I had quite forgotten. Thanks for reminding me. Though the Master's handwriting is hard to read. Compare with that of Stravinsky.

Interesting sites, thank you! On a side note, the 100th anniversary of the premier of the Rite of Spring happened this past week.

Any concerts commemorating it? I would have never guessed!

Not sure if this was performed on Wednesday, but Performance Today commemorated it with the broadcast of the work. Here is a link to that day's performance broadcasts:

That is a very plesent site. The speakers talk with a very good diction, which makes English easily understandable.

Performance Today with Fred Child is a pleasant program to listen to. The hosts always are complimentary of the composers as well as the performers. The Piano Puzzler is fun to listen to, as well.
