Very sad to hear and a sad time for the world of classical music.

    Requiescat in pace.

Thanks for passing the info along; I had not had this and have had a fondness for his achievements. It's time to put on the Berlioz Requiem.

Thanks for posting that Michael - yes sad indeed, and typically no mention on mainstream news of this outstanding musician and charming man.

          RIP

Many of my favorite recordings are thanks to him.

I have a recording of the Nutcracker, the complete ballet with the Toronto Symphony which I cherish.

He recorded one of the finest sets of the Beethoven Piano Concertos with Stephen Kovacevich and the BBC SO.
The two Beethoven masses are also very fine.

My introduction to him was his complete recording of Messiah. To this day it is my favorite recording of that work.

His recent live recording of Fidelio is outstanding.

Very interesting documentary program and interview with Sir Colin last night on BBC4 - amazing to hear about the animosity he encountered in his early days as a conductor. There were also wonderful excerpts such as the Gloria from the Missa Solemnis and his Berlioz requiem performance in St.Paul's Cathedral London - superb. Other insights were Benjamin Britten's unfavourable reaction to Davis's Peter Grimes.
