Thanks Chaszz, that's very thoughtful but I really wanted it in dvd format - it's on my to get list but I'll see if there are better offers on it during the year.

I've tried repeatedly to get into Bruckner and failed. I have now made a renewed effort with a Karajan recording of the 8th and succeeded at last. (Don't know which version as it is a privately "burned" 2-disk set with no other info on it). Thanks for stimulating my successful try with this thread, Peter!
See my paintings and sculptures at Saatchiart.com. In the search box, choose Artist and enter Charles Zigmund.

I'm delighted Chaszz - I had problems with Bruckner as well and it was this 8th symphony that finally converted me as well - is there much more sublime than the slow movement which Bruckner himself regarded as his greatest achievement?

I thought somewhere earlier in this thread you referred in that way to the slow movement, and wanted to mention that reference, but I could not find it in the thread! Where is it, do you know?

Because of that comment, it was the slow movement I tried, which finally after several hearings opened itself up to me.

I'm not sure Chaszz, perhaps in another thread? Anyway I'm delighted those words helped!
