    This morning:

    More Stravinsky!

    Symphony in C

I have a Sony collection of the Works of Stravinsky and from time to time I get the opportunity to listen to some of them. This morning the symphony happened to be on the radio, so it has been a good dosage of Stravinsky.

      Beethoven:
Octet for woodwinds in E flat major. [What a bore!]

      Schumann:
      Symphony no. 1

Would you expand? Oh yes! Haydn did it better than Beethoven.

Enrique, you should listen to Beethoven's string quintet version of the same work - Opus 4. It's not a mere transcription - it's practically a re-composition. It's fascinating to compare the two - but the quintet wins hands down!

Yes, Michael, I look in wikipedia and it's just what they say (the reelaboration). I'll have to listen to it.

Now Enrique, I never said that! Beethoven certainly learnt something from his bewigged master Joseph, that is undeniable.

                      Stravinsky
                      Le Baiser de la fee

                      How reminiscent of Petrushka!

No, it's all on one CD - just too lazy to change CDs

One of the CDs in the 22CD Sony-Stravinsky set: CD20.
The works you recently spun (the tchaikovskyan ones) fill CD5 of this set.

Ahhh, understood. It will probably take awhile for me to get to that CD, then, but in the meantime I will catch more Stravinsky as I get the opportunity.
