Nice little selection. But to describe the Ninth Symphony as "bombastic"? Is that meant to be a compliment?

I don't think so, but the journalist who used that term has been taken to task in the readers' comments that follow the article. Sometimes, the readers' responses are more engaging than the actual article. The Guardian calls this 'CIF', which means 'Comment is Free'. Not all of their articles have this function, but many do. Usually excluded from 'CIF' are news items involving ongoing legal cases.
