Don't jump for glee just yet, Herr Blue Baron, we have until the end of November, no?

Indeed and then a break as I haven't had time to prepare more, so I'll work on an Xmas special!

No.4. Perhaps a hymn (sounds like 'him') by Monteverdi (sounds like Verdi)?

Ooohh ... kind of in keeping with this quiz master's twisted mind. Might we have a good lead here? Peter's clue that "it sounds like him" had me repeating his clue in various silly foreign accents but that strategy didn't lead me anywhere.
Joder! Which in a milder translation means "damn it!" Enrique will understand the full impact of this expletive.

Good lead PDG (henceforth to be referred to as Lord Tenants Extra Strong Lager, or 'Lord Tenant', for short). Too tired tonight, but tomorrow (if I have time) I'll be Googling ancient controversial hymns ...
Thanks for the tip, PDG Lord Tenant, and good night to you !

Hmmm. I think your hymn is a breakthrough, PDG. Hmmmmmmm.....

Methinks I have it but if I'm right PDG opened the floodgates.
He made it ripe for Googling.

Yes, you're on the right lines with Hymn - forget about Monteverdi though!

(The oldest existing piece of musical notation?)

Well done, that was a tough one - one more to go.

PDG should get the credit. If I were staring at it until Doomsday, I never would have got your fiendish pun on "him".

Incidentally, there are a number of realisations of this piece on YouTube and none of them sound the same (to me anyway).

Might as well take a stab at it. Is it Mozart's ballet music for Idomeneo?

That's all right, Mike. As usual, I'm happy to do all the leg work with you then collecting the glory. The, er, usual 70/30 split of the royalties in my favour (plain paper bag behind the men's washroom at Victoria Station <Nudge, nudge, wink, wink>)?

And what's all this about stomach cramps? Hope not too serious?...
