It wouldn't be Wagner's opera "Look to the Distant Past" which he composed in ten minutes in 1849? (Unfortunately, I don't have the German title.)

No because my clue would have been the answer! In any case I mean the very distant past!

Peter always seems to acknowledge Michael's incorrect answers but no one else's. Hmmm...

Anyway, I'm just glad that the Dandy has been mentioned in this thread. It's still a fine read but sadly will end its 75-year existence in a mere two weeks...

My answer was so ridiculous that it couldn't be taken seriously. I was surprised it was even acknowledged.
I have no idea whatsoever what the corrrect answer is.

Not strictly true if you look back - I usually only respond to a wrong answer with a further clue and I'll give you two as you're obviously feeling left out - In no.4 it sounds like him. No.2 contains the name of the ballet.

No. 2 , Verdi UN BALLO IN MASCHERA [A MASKED BALL]

Since Masked Balls are colourful, I'll plump for that.

Clearly we have only one option left. I'll get it started.

Aaron Aardvark - Arabesque, Op. 1

Aaron Aardvark's Op. 1 was actually an Aria in A flat. (I hate to be pedantic but we must get our facts right. I'm surprised at you, Chris.)

                            Beethoven's Bundeslied in B flat.

                            (Somebody stop this - quickly!!!)

It must have been a misprint on the packaging of the Brilliant Classics Complete Aardvark Edition!
