There's no doubting the guy's passion for Beethoven, that's as sure as mustard is hot.

Yes and I'm sure he's found comfort from it as his wife suffers from Alzheimers. Good luck to him with the book.

Yes but, his promo still doesn't inspire me to buy his book, I don't see why I should purchase his book just to discover a new juicy little tidbit that I never knew about Beethoven, it's all scraping the barrel pretty much, because surely there cannot that much more we can find out about Beethoven.
Suchet is basically an intelligent amateur, nothing wrong with that of course, but then since anyone else on this site could write what he writes, then why should we buy his work above anyone elses.
For a general reader I am sure the book is fine and I wish him every success, but for specialists and ethusiasts I doubt there is much in it.

He has done a lot over the years to promote Beethoven for the man in the street and he lives and breathes the music. It would not be a bad thing if this nicely-produced book gathered a few more music-lovers into the fold.

After all, not everybody can be world-renowned experts like us.

Yes, the difference being though that his books will sale and ours wouldn't even get published! If I thought I'd have a chance I'd be sifting through all the best bits of the forum to make a wonderful book, but you'd all probably sue!!

I don't think Suchet is aiming at the specialist market, just the general music lover who would like an entertaining read.

He could well have got some facts from BRS, but it would be nice if he did do that and give us an acknowledgement.

The film Copying Beethoven certainly used this site for advice - no mention in the credits and I'm still waiting for the royalties! I even suggested one of the actors for his part!
