Classical music teaser - round 3

    RULES:

After attempting one question you have to wait 12 hours before attempting another one unless someone else has attempted that question first. The questions cover anything to do with classical music and are not Beethoven specific.

If anyone wishes to send a PM with their answers that's ok, but I won't acknowledge them as correct or otherwise until posted on the forum - however if they are correct and someone else posts it first on the forum, then I'll credit the person with the PM as well. Please limit PM answers to no more than one per day.

    1) Sweet reflections perhaps? Answered by Michael: Miroirs (Reflections) is a suite for solo piano by Maurice Ravel

    2) Bardi's chamber is the venue for these thinkers. Answered by Megan: The Florentine Camerata was a group of humanists, musicians, poets and intellectuals in late Renaissance Florence who gathered under the patronage of Count Giovanni de' Bardi to discuss and guide trends in the arts, especially music and drama.

    3) A retreat in the centre for Prince Karol. Answered by Michael (in two parts!) : George Sand's chateau Nohant in the Centre region of France where Chopin spent seven of his most productive summers, until his relationship with Sand ended suddenly. In her novel Lucrezia Floriani, Sand used Chopin as a model for the sickly Eastern European Prince Karol.

    4) With modest words, the queen wins the gamble. Answered by Michael: Tchaikovsky's 'Queen of Spades' (the winning card) - libretto by his brother Modest.

    5) Chou-Chou's corner? Answered by Megan: Debussy's 'Children's Corner suite' dedicated to his daughter, Claude-Emma (known as "Chou-Chou").

    6) This is for a good song! Answered by Megan : Faure's song-cycle 'La Bonne Chanson'.

Debussy nicknamed Chou-Chou and for whom he composed his Children's Corner Suite in 1909.

It is Megan, but the rules only allow one answer every 12 hours to give others a chance, you can PM answers though. I'll allow it this time!

No problem Megan - it makes a change for you to get a look in before the others anyway!

No. 1 could be Ravel's Miroirs (Reflections), a suite for solo piano.

It's too early for that I think and I don't want to make them too obvious. Don't forget these are now monthly instalments so there is plenty of time!

For number 6, Strauss' waltz, Wine, Women, and Song come to mind.

Could be, Sorrano, but I doubt it. I only say that because you have to get into Peter's twisted cryptic mind before you even have a chance of working out his clues. As I'm not twisted enough I find this quiz in particular the most difficult yet.
