    The A-Z Beethoven Quiz (rules of the game)

    Well, here goes. The principles of the game are as follows:
    a) The first poster gives a word beginning with "A" that is somehow related to LvB, and then explains the reference. For example, if I were to start I'd begin thus:
    "A" is for Albrechtsberger, Beethoven's counterpoint teacher;
    b) The next poster (anyone, but not the first poster) says "B" is for Brentano, B's friend (or whatever);
    c) If after a suitable period (shall we say 24 hrs?) nobody can come up with the next letter, it is then down to the previous poster to provide the next letter and reference;
    d) Continue thus until you have exhausted the index in Solomon, Thayer and any other sources;
    e) Admit defeat and send a cheque to either Roehre or Michael, with 10% to Peter and Chris.

    Shall we play?

    A is for Amenda, Beethoven's friend and recipient of dodgy string quartet manuscripts.

                I mean you have to wait 24hrs if nobody posts after your contribution.
                Go on then, give us an "E".

                  I did B, Roehre did C, then I did D. Do I have to wait 24 hours or until after the next poster?

                    Sorry Sorrano, I was typing my "D" but you beat me to it. Over to you for the "E". Let's assume now (after posting your "E") that nobody replies over the next 24hrs. It'll be down to you to give the "F". That's crystal clear, isn't it?

                      Er, that's not right. You beat me to the "D" so it's my turn (or someone else's) to provide the "E". Hope you read this in time!

                        Sorry about the confusion, Sorrano, you were too quick for the software.
                        You posted the "D" first, so it's up to someone else now (me or anyone else) to post the "E". If we can't come up with an "E" within 24hrs (the time it might take to research like mad), it'll be down to you - as the last poster - to come up with it. The "E", I mean. In the context I have just given. Clear? Me neither.

                          I've got to be quick now before Sorrano beats me to it:
                          E = Esterhazy, whose wife was the recipient of the Mass in C.

                            It's pretty clear to me, Philip. The confusion had more to do with how the posting came out, so no problems there.

                            F is for Fidelio, Beethoven's "only" opera.

                              This is fun! Pity that Chris, Peter, Michael, and others are not in it.
