        Today:

        Bruckner:
        Symphony no.9 in d (1890/’96; ed.Samale/Phillips/Cohrs/Mazzuca 2012)
BPO/Rattle. Well performed. However: I don’t like the sound of the recording: too saturated, too woolly, too much presence of the brass, especially the horn section (are there really only 15 brass players and “only” 8 horns?).

        Birtwistle:
        Cortege (2007)

As today is the anniversary of the first performance of the notorious Battle Symphony in 1813, I think I'll bring my speakers outdoors and treat the neighbours to a performance.
(On second thoughts, I'll settle for earphones.)

Given the inconsiderate racket into the early hours I sometimes have to endure from neighbours, your first idea would be a welcome one here! Once a year we also have a rock festival that is 3 miles away but sounds like it's in your living room - I wonder how they'd like it with a symphony orchestra full blast until 3.00am?

Listening to Rachmaninov's 'Isle of the dead' which puts me in just the right mood for the awful weather we're having.

Poor you, I know all to well how you must feel.
Have you written to your local MP?
Have you logged a complaint with your local Council?
You need to go to the environmental health officer or dept, and make a formal complaint.
You can probably get also if you need to a half our on an hour of free legal advice with a local solicitor if you phone around.
You can also have talk with your local Mayor.

I've been their , done all that and did achieve results. I know all this can be exasperating, but it is worth it.

Where I used to live, a house that backed on to us were having a party , the music was weird. I phoned up the police early hours and said their was a party going on, which went of from about 7pm to around 7am. Before I called the police I went round to the offending neighbour to ask if he could turn his music down, on answering me he was so obviously spaced out on drugs and booze, his speech was slurred. . He said, oh yeah, yeah, sorry, I'll turn the music down, but he never did. I phoned the police but they clearly were not interested.

Fortunately it doesn't happen very often otherwise I would have to do something about it. Today as at last it's sunny and pleasant I'm watching/ listening to the Marriage of Figaro.
