    Mozart in Mannheim

Today I really had a funny experience. My daughter started studying in Mannheim and today was the day when she moved into her appartment there. Before I was just curious where Mozart was living when he lived there several months in 1778 and got me informed. Well, I didn't find out where he lived but I found where Constanze's family was living and where Mozart was frequently visiting - and guess what - they were living exactly the same street where my daughter is living now - what a coincidence! .
Unfortuneately Mannheim was heavily bombed in WW II and the house got destroyed. Here is an old picture before WWII :

Today there are only new buildings.

It is close to the beautiful castle where Mozart was performing his art (today the university):

Mozart was composing in Mannheim primarily a good number of his violinsonatas, of which I love especially the gorgeous 2nd movement from KV 302 in Eb Major.

Thanks for that Gerd - yes a real shame that so many beautiful buildings were lost, but terrific to find the street where Mozart was visiting the Webers - you know, Constanze's mother is forever associated with the 'Queen of the night' in my mind after that memorable scene in Amadeus!
