Didn't know you were a Cage fan, Roerhe!

    Last night:

Bartok: String Quartet No. 1 (Guess what came in the mail yesterday!)

    This morning:

Glazunov: Overtures No. 1 and 2 on Greek Themes

You guessed it Sorrano, I didn't want to tell everyone that I had 4'33" on repeat

Taking my cue from Sorrano, last night (in total darkness, the way I like to listen to music) I listened to Brucker's 5th, 1st movement only : Eugen Jochum, Staatskapelle Dresden. Mixed feelings here, as I felt frustrated at the changes in pace, but the brass section has some fiendish players!

Ah, dear Cage! Always the butt of our jokes, but one who has "pushed the envelope", wouldn't you say?
Bartok, Sorrano? Whatever made you make that purchase? Hah!
Glazunov : I had to put my glasses on, because I first read Overtures 1 & 2 on Geek themes!!!!

To take JC's aesthetic position to an extreme, all of our waking-hearing-listening life could be taken as a continuous, looped 4'33" !!!!

I do like the sound of the quartet that was playing, as well and am looking forward to the rest of the Quartets.

I've made similar errors reading the word "Greek", as well. Looking at all those notes do take their toll!

I have deleted two threads, one which Peter (sorry about that Peter,) replied to, because I now think they were bad threads. That and primarily because I have been listening to Mozart and have concluded that he is a mystery to me, and that I should make no comparison.

When I say mystery, sometimes I do hear a Horner or Zimmer feel in Mozart's music, and then I hear something completely different the next time I listen to the same piece.

Mahler, Symphony N° 9, Berlin Phil / Abbado. Knockout, earth shattering stuff ...
Going to put on Bruckner's 9th now ...

A pupil struggling with Op.109 - mind you, who doesn't? except for Myra Hess who I think gave one of the loveliest performances of this work I've heard.

                          Any reason other than 9ths?

It must be a good student to even be attempting Op. 109. How many of the 32 have you played yourself?
