Among others a cherished recollection of a performance of Shostakovich 5 in the Concertgebouw, and a couple of brilliant renditions of Mahler 5 and 6.

Why do conductors live so long? It can't be all the arm-waving or Sir Adrian Boult would never have lasted. It certainly worked for Bernstein although the fags got him in the end.

(Note: "fags" are cigarettes on this side of the Atlantic. Mind you, in the case of Bernstein ........................)
