Yes, Rage over a Lost Penny ! That's the message I always send to my dear ex-wife (long may she prosper ... not) when I'm late with the alimony. Hah!

This evening I am taking a shot at the TIntner recording of Bruckner's 3rd (1st movement only). Now, if you ask me which version I prefer, the Nowak (1877, 1888/89) that Jochum conducts or this one, the original (1873) I would answer, "That depends on how much time I have." Both are very listenable and will look forwards to the rest of this as I get time. I find myself more profoundly moved at the conclusion of the original version than the revision.

Today:
Frederick II “the Great” of Prussia:
Sonata in C minor for flute & basso continuo (R3:TtN)
One of the 8 in c-minor, of in total some 120 sonatas. The 2nd mvt of this particular sonata contains a two bar descending chromatic motive very reminiscent of the royal theme of Bach’s Musical Offering (on a theme suggested by Frederick the Great)
Schnittke:
Violin Sonata no.2 “Quasi una sonata” (1968)
Suite im alten Stil (1972)
