Does anyone know the origin and German translation of this quote:

"This is the mark of a really admirable man: Steadfast in the face of trouble"

German translation of the above quote.

"Die große Auszeichnung eines vorzüglichen Mannes. Beharrlichkeit in widrigen harten Zufällen"

This quote is from his diary from 1812 - 1818 (see: Beethovens Tagebuch 1812-1818, Verlag Beethoven-Haus Bonn, 2005, p. 73). Beethoven notes probably a quotation, its source is unknown.
