    Yes, that certainly was...weird. Kind of cool on its own, but I don't know if it really works as a cadenza to this piece.

      I like this one very much, it has featured on some recordings already, one of them a recording with Ruggiero Ricci, a CD with only the concerto, but with the possibillity to listen to 10 different candenzas for the 1st mvt, including this Schnittke one.

      As all the usual ones are just as stylistically out of place as the Schnittke candenza, and only Beethoven's own cadenza for violin and timpani (adapted from his piano-arrangement of the concerto) can be considered to be somehow "authentically beethovenian", there is nothing wrong with this cadenza even though it uses some 20th Century techniques.

        That was great Michael. What a unique way to listen to that. The one guy looked tired at the end understandably.

          A bit strange perhaps. Not too bad though. Towards the end it did sound a bit like 'buzzing bees'.
