Vote in NY Times Poll of Top Composers

Anthony Tommassini has been doing a series this month probing who the Top Ten composers of all time might be. Just posted first videos on some and they have added reader survey at bottom of page. You have to vote for ten. Beethoven narrowly leads right now.

Beethoven is still narrowly ahead. We'll have to vote more often. <grin>

Folks, due to a "data error," the Times says it had to re-set its poll, and advises people who voted yesterday to vote again now....

Wow, Ed, that's an interesting list and the composers are all so DIFFERENT. Ligeti alongside Prokofiev!! All different facets of your own personality, Ed?
                Have a nice day!!

Y'know, I've heard Ligeti for many many years (my theory teacher premiered some of the piano etudes) and he was never a favorite. But then I saw a couple live concerts of his orchestral music and it was kind of a revelation. CDs just can't impart what he's trying to convey...

I just resubmitted my votes. Bach is now beating Beethoven by a single vote

I also had to resubmit my vote but I now see that Beethoven is back in the lead by 2 points.

Bach is running away with it now. We must all vote for B and nine others who are NOT Bach!

                            My votes (alphabetically):
                            Bach
                            Beethoven
                            Brahms
                            Bruckner
                            Händel
                            Haydn
                            Mendelssohn
                            Mozart
                            Schubert
                            Schumann

edit: wow, I just watched the video about Haydn & Mozart, I *hate* when people start "telling" what's happening in the music as in the last bits of that video.

I just noticed that even tho Tomassini chose Bach as his personal greatest, Beethoven won the popular vote! Hooray for Louis!
