    Would you like to rephrase that, Megan? Though I do like that : "I am awe".
    "Shock and Awe"? Thank you, Mr Bush !!!!!!
    OK, it's Friday, it's the weekend, I'm letting my hair down (what little remains of it!).

      You pipped me to the post again Philip.

        Pipped? Charles Dickens, Great Expectations, "Pip". Yes, that's my nickname!
        No longer do I need to be known as the "Pedant".

          So, in keeping with alliterative constraints, we can now say :
          "You pipped me to the post, Pip".
          Splendid. I like Fridays.

            Yes, but don't pinch Philip.

              [:
              a) American spelling, e.g. "learned" instead of "learnt" (I prefer the Queen to any President, and irregular verbs need to be treated irregularly);
              b) "Perahps" instead of "Parumph" ...;

              PERHAPS has the H somewhere else...hasn't it? Well Here I keep on practising the language I studied long ago! Thank you
              You English speaking don't use accents so a mistake shouldn't be so unusual.

                Terry, naughty Roman, you are! Accents are in fact used in English :
                a) Déjà vu (I have a strong feeling of déjà vu);
                b) The Queen's annual garden fête (I have yet to receive my first invitation);
                c) Maelström;
                d) Doppelgänger
                e) Méhul;
                f) Etc ...

                  These are foreign words, don't cheat! You know that in our not-English-speaking countries, esp. Italy when we want to show our knowledge of Albyon, we pronounce SUSPANCE in an English rather than French way.

                    Mistake SUSPENSE pronounced with A instead of U. Ok this is not a linguistic forum

                      Please leave my molasses intact.
                      Goodness I take my eyes away for 5 minutes and Philip's off at a tangent again diverting us from Méhul (I got that by copying) to molasses!
                      The reason for omitting umlauts, circumflexes, cedilas, accents etc.... is our English / American keyboard doesn't cater for there being any other language in the world!

                        Nöt sô fàst, mon ami! My UK/USA keyboard has this facility. And, by the way, that's a çedila. Yà boö, and other accèntéd insùlts in your général diréction!!

                          Well, yes. Anyway, in my latest reincarnation as Forum Nice Guy (he smiles, in an evil manner...), one has only to sluice off the excess salt and molasses to discover that under all these additives is a dish well worth eating. Or do you not like spicy food?

                            Well lucky you - essential I'm sure if you live in Strasbourg! My keyboard (and I suspect many others) doesn't, although I've just found the circumflex which you can have with your Méhul sauce! ^

                              Nothing better than a well placed circumflêx, Peter! That said, you are a quite a saûcy bôy! I have to confess that my keyboard does not allow me to spell Dvorak correctly. Pedantry has its limits ...

                                Now, talking of "idiomatic" writing, that (the Dvorak) is one hell of a "well-spelt" 'cello concerto!! Wrong thread. Whàt is öné tô dö?
