    Beethoven and his hair

In earlier portraits of Beethoven, it seems his hair is not as long or as bad as it was in his older days. So, did he actually bother to comb it. I heard that he did indeed try but it was no use. The hardest question is what style did he comb it-if he ever did. Did he part it?

And-if anyone knows where I can find a good art print, etc of a younger version of Beethoven, let me know.

Well how about the picture on the homepage of this site? That and the Christian Horneman miniature are two good examples of early portaits - both show the same hair style with long side burns and whispy fringe. You should be able to obtain prints of them through a good music shop. It is interesting how people's impressions of Beethoven are based solely on his last years - totally deaf and unkempt! In his younger days he was fashionably dressed and payed great attention to his appearance, and of course he had a fair degree of hearing, though impaired.
