    1. You may download a tool from http://www.freerip.com/.
    With this you can create mp3 or wav files from a CD. I use the similiar German tool CDex. Or you download pieces from YouTube with
    http://atube-catcher.dsnetwb.com

    2. A MP3 file you could upload for example to www.soundclick.com after registrating there for free.

    But the problem you face is also whether it is legal to present pieces from bought CDs ... I don't know about the legality of downloaded pieces from YouTube

      I confess I've finally been beaten down by the misanthropic Phillip. Gerd has class for remaining silent in the face of this "diplomacy".

      I found 2 and 4 part harmony difficult and have only read Kittson's "Elementary Harmony" so don't underestimate anyone who has arrived at a point of actual composition - no matter how successful the outcome (computer program or not). I'm not surprised that students at a University would "compose" music; there would be some who play it too, I'll bet! All have a particular talent no doubt; much more than I. But do they LOVE music any more than I do?

      I've come to a point of understanding at my age that this love may be expressed in various ways. Watching (the just awful) Andre Rieu concert from Sydney recently I saw many thousands of elderly folk in raptures and singing along with his choir and soprano to an improbable arrangement of "Waltzing Matilda". I cringed but, at the same time, was genuinely moved by the emotional response to the music - which shouldn't be patronized or underestimated as it was genuine.

      I didn't say Gerd's composition was "nice", but that it was nice to hear a piece he had composed.

        That's about the size of it. http://www.mediafire.com is a good place for file hosting. I think you can even post files there without registering.

          Yes it is indeed very easy, but here it seems you must download the whole piece before you can hear it. You can't listen to it by streaming.

          Here is my next piece for our Quiz which I just uploaded to to that website:

          It is just the ending (I follow Peters advice to do just extracts for legal reason) of an incredibly great piano concerto:

              Gerd, I think it is Mendelssohn

                Yes I'd say it's Mendelssohn's 2nd Piano Concerto in D minor - when doing music A level I was told by a useless teacher that Mendelssohn didn't write any piano concertos!

                  Yes it was Liszt and can you guess the year of the events described?

                    Yes, of course it can't be anyone but Mendelssohn, but it is not the concerto you mention. But by the way, the d minor concerto, especially the 1st movement, is also fantastic and I don't understand why it so neglected. I love it much more than the more appreciated 1st concerto in g-minor.

                    But what is the concerto of our Quiz?

                      this is the unfinished concerto [no.3] in e.

                      Btw, including this third concerto Mendelssohn composed 2 concertos for two pianos and orchestra (E and A-flat), one for violin, piano and orchestra (d-minor), 4 for piano and orchestra (a-minor, nr.1 op.25, no.2 op.40, the unfinished in e-minor), a couple of "stand-alone" pieces for piano and orchestra, and of course 2 violin concertos (d-minor and opus 64), plus two concertpieces for clarinet and basset horns (opp.113/114).

                        Gerd;

                        Can you revert to the other format of the quiz. I had a horrible time with Mediafire. I could not hear the music.

                          [QUOTE=Roehre;45728]this is the unfinished concerto no.3 in e.
                          QUOTE]

                          Yes, isn't this an awesome ending? I know only a few codas that I adore as this.
                          But I can tell you that the whole concerto is just great, also the most beautiful 2nd movement. Only Beethoven's concertos 3-5 I love as this one.

                          Roehre, the other concertos you mentioned were from Mendelssohn's early youth, which I don't know, apart from the slow movement of the concerto for violin, piano and orchestra (d-minor),
                          which is very, very beautiful!

                            Gerd;

                            I finally figured out the Mediafire. Please ignore my last post.
