      Today:

      Artyomov:
Concert for 13 wind, piano and percussion (1967)
Tristia – “Sad reflections” for trumpet, piano, organ and 45 strings (1983)
(A kind of Penderecki Threnody revisited for strings, a Satie piano and an Ives unanswered question trumpet over some organ chords)

      Silvestrov:
Postludium for piano and orchestra (1985)

      Baley:
Violin concerto no.1 “Quasi una fantasia” (1987)

      Weingartner:
      Symphony no.6 in b opus 74 “Tragica” (1928)
[Hofrat: I don't think the symphony's number, key and opusnumber are a coincidence, though the music is referring to Schubert, not Tchaikovsky]

Good God, Roehre, have you missed your vocation as a CD liner notes writer, or what? I admire your concision, by the way!! Keep it up, please, most refreshing !!!!!!!

Today I'm listening to Mozart's 'Marriage of Figaro', which I first discovered through the film 'Amadeus'. When the Count sings 'Contessa Perdono' it almost moves me to tears. (apologies if some of the spelling is wrong!)
My misfortune is doubly painful, I was bound to be misunderstood. LvB

L'Orchestra de la Suisse Romande/Ernest Ansermet

              Today:

              Dobrzynski:
Overture from the opera Monbar, czyli Flibustierowie Op.30 [1838] (R3 TtN)
This is what you get crossing Bellini with Von Weber. Enjoyable though.

              Barber:
              Dover Beach opus 3 (1931)
              Hermit Songs opus 29 (1953)

              Edgar Meyer:
              Violinconcerto (1999)

Listening to some of Beethoven's Irish songs, and in this particular recording, some of the German accents produce a rather hilarious effect.

"But since in vailing zere's nought availing,
Und Fate unfailing must strike ze blow:
Zen for zat reason and for a season,
Ve vill be merry before ve go!"

                LOL.

"merry before we go" - under, presumably, because of horrendous debt. LvB was prescient indeed.

                        .
I am afraid the English/American accents of singers trying to sing German texts are not much better

Archduke Trio. Makes me sad to think this was Beethoven's last public performance.
