I wish!!!! No, Martha Argerich was married to Stephen Kovacevich. I guess she found out his playing was better than hers...!!!

That's what you get crossbreeding Sibelius with Ravel ;D

            R3 lunchtime concert:

Am I the only one who thinks that the earlier arrangements of Birtwistle’s are more colourful and fantastic than the later ones?
I have heard more exuberant arrangements of the Bach KdF than Birtwistle’s recent ones.

Roehre, I've decided that you don't listen to enough music. Now come on, make an effort, please!

OK, this was for me an exuberant day (because of the full hour during lunch time), but the rest is still less than 90 minutes altogether. I agree, I should listen to more music than the average 120 minutes a day (spread over the whole day, that is) as I do now

Roehre is unfortunately a rarity in today's world. I have loads of musician friends who do not listen to music, as strange as that may seem....

One of my daughter's friends is an accomplished cellist; she has even "backed" Nigel Kennedy in the Beethoven violin concerto. Yet she always seems to be totally amazed that I sit down and listen to music for extended periods. She admits that she never does - but I suppose, for her, music is mostly work. I told her she should join a string quartet.

Seeing as he has had three names (Bishop, Bishop-Kovacevich, Kovacevich) the man could well be a bigamist. Or even a trigamist.

(I thought I had made up that last word, but when I looked it up I saw that there really is such a term. )

Michael, all those three names add up to one thing: CHAMPION. And, on top of all that, handsome. I met him in the early 70s when he was touring Aussie as Stephen Bishop and he was practicing in the basement of our ABC building. Those were the days...
