I saw Gustavo Dudamel perform at Kennedy Center last night. Great, great performance. He did Mendelsohn's Italian Symphony, and Brahms' Fourth. By extended standing ovation, he did two encores. I'm not sure what the first was, the second was Brahms' Hungarian Rhapsody. His astounding energy and involvement in the music makes his conducting a performance apart from the music. Seeing him live is an experience. He is so involved in the music, it seems that he forgets to conduct sometimes, he just enjoys himself. He dances, he writhes, he grunts, he hisses. I've got tickets to see him again in April, when he brings his Venezuela Youth Orchestra to DC. As my grandchildren would say, "I'm like, you know, wow."

Yes he is a very inspirational figure, especially for young musicians - I posted this link before in our youtube thread but it's worth listing again in case anyone missed it.
