Franz Clement (1780-1842) was a child prodigy who made his debut aged 8. He had a lond association with Beethoven's music as he was leader of the orchestra at the Theater an der Wien and later music director. His most famous association with Beethoven is of course the Violin concerto which he premiered in 1806. He was renowned for his phenomenal memory which he ably demonstrated at the meeting in Lichnowksy's flat to persuade Beethoven to shorten the score of Fidelio - he accompanied Princess Lichnowsky in the entire opera from memory.
