a picture you have never seen

I don't know the painter, FIX is his surname. Title: "B feels his first symptoms of deafness" The picture is taken from an old and interesting book, Bilancioni: "Beethoven's deafness: considerations by an ear specialist"
    Nice, isn't it?

Thanks for that Terry - you're right I haven't seen it before. It looks a typical mid 19th century idealisation. As to the book itself, when was it written?

Agreed, it definitely looks like an idealisation, and possibly later than mid-C19th.

I don't remember, about 1950's ; the author was an ear specialist and his various theories about deafness are very updated; that's why I'm afraid the cures against deafness haven't got better since then. I fear there couldn't much to do for him even today.

I read somewhere that Beethoven might have suffered from otosclerosis which is something my sister in law had. She had 'buzzing' in her ears and was going deaf. She was operated on and can now hear quite normally. Maybe this procedure could have helped Beethoven.

Could it have been on this site?!

That's interesting that they could help your sister in law, but Beethoven may also have had Tinitis which I believe is incurable even today.

Now that I think about it, it probably was this site. I had forgotten about the tinitis issue as well.
