I am sure this has been requested before, but please stay with me....This time last year I was in Bonn. Early next year, I plan to visit Vienna. Can anyone recommend a cheap, central hotel please?
It is about 10 minutes (top) to the Haydnhaus going on one direction of the Mariahilferstrasse and other 10 minutes (top) to the centre going the other one.
It is also next to a beautiful statue of Haydn
"Wer ein holdes Weib errungen..."
"My religion is the one in which Haydn is pope." - by me .

When I was in Veinna with my daughter we stayed at the Hotel Prinz Eugene. It was very nice and accomodaiting. We were with in walking distance to the inner city and there was a bus/tram station across the street. The best way to get around Vienna is with their transit systems and not hard to use. The first night I was there we walked to the Belvedere Palace (now a museum) and walked around the grounds. It was only two blocks away. How did you like Bonn?

I forgot to add: Make sure you look up Andrea when you are there. She posts under the name Hollywood here on this forum. She loves to take you around and show you all the great Beethoven sites. I spent two days with her and we had a great time. She was so much help.

Heidi's right Fidelio. If I am not busy at the time you are here in Vienna I can show you around some of the Beethoven must see places. Here also is a list of sites that have holiday flats or hotel rooms here in Vienna that you can check out:

Absolutely Heidi! I also was privileged to experience the Andrea-Beethoven tour! We had a terrific time which you can read about on the site www.kingsbarn.freeserve.co.uk/viennatrip.html
Visiting the Beethovenhaus was one of my life long ambitions (Vienna is the next!). It was a bit emotional but a fantasic trip.
The Stage for Music Visualisation had a 21st 3D light representation of Act 1 of Fidelio. All I can say is that it was an interesting display!
The house and its contents were breathtaking. I felt very humble to be in such presence. The staff were very helpful.
Went also to the various other houses and to visit his mother's grave.
I think Vienna will be just as enjoyable, perhaps even more so, to think that Beethoven walked those streets and stood and played in the various rooms where you can visit........can't wait.
I think I once replied to you before Fidelio ('Eroica' in your other guise elsewhere) that we might meet up in Vienna ('sounds like a project' were your words, I seem to recall). Whatever. I had planned to go this September to Vienna, but funds were short, I'm afraid. The New Year for me, then. You?
I'm not sure about a life after this
God knows I've never been a spiritual man
Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river
That is running to the promised land

I completely agree about Bonn. As for Vienna, try here:
KOLPING GASTEHAUS 1060 Gunmpendorfer Str. 39
tel. 587 56 31
fx 586 36 30
I dont' know email, supposedly they have a site.
It's a big hostel for students, with a section for tourists in summer (and also in winter perhaps), very nice, a great big breakfast and good prices. (But I went there 9 years ago... )
