I'm combing through my Beethoven books for more puns, without any luck.

No, although he certainly let his hair down...

Did Billy Shears appear in "Ram"?
(PDG, we're getting into Beatle territory hear and should be disqualified. In fact we should all be disqualified for these ghastly puns. In future, let's stick to the bald facts about Ludwig!)

Seriously, there are still no bids on eBay for the strand of haIr. Maybe because discerning Beethoven lovers know it's not the real thing. If you examine the description carefully, you will see that it's a strand of Ludwig VON Beethoven's hair, not our own Ludwig VAN.
If they cannot get the name right, what are our chances with the hair?

                                Puns

I am abashed. LvB loved such puns, so well done everybody! I am only able to offer my own anti-violist joke (as a 'cellist I have a low opinion of such creatures) :

Young new recruit to the viola section of the Berlin Phil is seated next to the veteran first viola, Herr Schmitt. Young recruit notices that in rehearsals and actual concerts Herr S - before playing a note - always takes a slip of paper out of his breast pocket, reads it carefully, folds it up again and then replaces it. This goes on for several months. Finally, perplexed and unable to supress his curiosity the younger player finally plucks up the courage to ask the leader why he does that.

Young player : Herr Schmitt, why do you always read that bit of paper before playing?

Veteran : It's very simple. Here, take a look. (He hands over said paper)

On it our young viola reads : "Remember : viola in left hand, bow in right".
