    Looking for some period recordings...

...especially the ones made in Beethoven's own pianos, but I'm interested in all recording made on ORIGINAL fortepianos.

    Any help, please?

    Thanks in advance

Melvyn Tan has recorded all the bagatellas (plus some other pieces) on Beethoven's Broadwood. EMI did the recording.

Malcolm Bilson has recorded all the sonatas on various forte pianos. I can not remember which label.

Robert Levin and John Elliot Gardiner have recorded all the concerti on forte pianos. Archiv did the recording.

The Bilson recordings of the sonatas are Claves CD # 50-9707/10; it's a 10 CD set (it's actually Bilson and six colleagues, but he's the ringleader).

There's also Badura-Skoda's cycle on Astrée. It's hard to find but rewarding.

In addition, I have the piano and 'cello sonatas on period fortepianos as well as the piano trios. I am sorry that I am not at home and can not indicate the recording companies.

By the way, the Gardiner-Levine set of Beethoven's piano concerti includes the 2nd symphony as a piano trio and the 4th piano concerto as a piano quintet, both original arrangements by Beethoven and performed on fortepianos.

With all due respect to Maestro Schiff, I highly recommend that you do not buy his recordings on the Beethoven Broadwood. The Beethoven Broadwood underwent a major overhaul AFTER Schiff recorded on it. Maestro Tan recorded on the Broadwood AFTER THE OVERHAUL. The Broadwood sounds terrible in Schiff's recording and it sounds heavenly in Tan's recording. So, beware!

Thank you all for your help.

Just got almost everything you guys recommended.

I couldn't find any of the Paul Komen and the Lubimov.

                  Thanks again
