    A Beethoven Trip

Maureen and I were in Cardiff South Wales for four days to visit my sister Rita.

The visit turned into a Beethoven themed trip. Thanks to Michael I looked for and found the BBC Music Mag with the Beethoven fourth piano Concerto DVD in Cardiff

Then at a charity shop in a village near Cardiff we found a box set Fidelio on pristine vinyl! and a sample CD of the Opera too.

In Hay - on - Wye, "The Village of Books" we found "Beethoven on Beethoven" by William S Newman a first edition :-) and the Paul Hamlyn, Beethoven which we once had in 1967. Also a small bust of the great composer!

We really enjoyed our little selves... in and out of the heavy showers :-)

We also picked up "The Steinway Collection: Paintings of the Great Composers with Essays by James Huneker". A 2005 reprint of the 1919 edition.

Just part of the painting of Beethoven by N C Wyeth is shown. A lovely book for just 7 pounds sterling!

I'm still in touch with the Beethoven-haus people about the other portrait of Beethoven. Things move so slow in this electronic age :-)

          Thank you Joy.

The good news is a member of staff at the Beethoven-haus museum in Bonn has requested my permission to use a scanned image of the portrait of Beethoven discovered in Ireland that I sent to them, to be included in the Beethoven-haus Digital Archives.

I am of course delighted. You will excuse my...........Yippee!!!

It's a thought-provoking painting, but I think it makes Beethoven look taller than his actual 5' 4". Idealistic certainly.

The actor who played him in the BBC three-parter was actually six foot four or something but he got away with it.
