When it comes to being a Beethoven fan, John Suchet must be number one. Getting back to your picture, I have a book called "Beethoven - The Composer as Hero" and there are a couple of reproductions in it which would be of the type to which John Suchet refers. One shows him playing the piano while vague attractive female shapes (the Muses?) float above him.
Why don't the Muses visit me?

Michael, Yes John Suchet is quite a champion of Beethoven. Whether his brother could outdo Ed Harris as Beethoven is open to debate. He did play Maxwell quite good. How about Depardeau as Beethoven... the French actor..too big?
I keep coming across Romantic images of Beethoven and Muses as I search day by day.
Why don't the Muses visit Killarney? Too expensive

It's a little uncanny, but today Maureen my wife and I went into Dublin to see a play at the famous Abbey theatre. Arthur Miller's "The Crucible". Having time to spare we poppped into a bookshop on O'connell Street to look for Beethoven books and spotted the Classic FM magazine. The CD was included.
A friend of ours, a lecturer in the Drama dept of Mississippi University, interviewed Arthur Miller. He is also a late starter Elvis fan :-)
He will find this Beethoven portrait story quite amusing. Especially now!Comment

One example not to get too far away from topic. A Today FM News editor (Elvis fan) told us to tune in for the radio station's tribute to Elvis on Elvis's birthday 8th January 1998.
1.15 PM Were were listening to the tribute, when out telephone rang and a guy with an American accent asked me if Iwould speak to the folks in Tupelo Mississippi about Elvis..it was Wizard FM broadcasting from Tupelo MS!!!
The "Elvis at 13" statue was unveiled in Tupelo 8th January 2002
Now I can post the Beethoven/Elvis CD on all the Elvis message boards

On the 14th August 1997 the Galway Advertiser printed an article about us and our Elvis story together with our love for Classical music and how we might win a trip to Graceland.
Well we did win the trip announced on RTE 1 Radio 14th August.
Elvis's mother Gladys died on the 14 of August and it is the date Helen, one of our six grandchildren, was born.

Well, you are right, I am, however, I have seen it in reruns many times and some of the shows were quite good and interesting. Congratulations on your trip to Graceland. It looks like you have had quite the luck with Elvis. Yes Joy, we enjoyed our 6 Trips to the USA.
Including Beethoven's Ninth at Carnegie Hall, A senate Hearing, The White House, Twin Towers, Empire State, Tupelo MS, Arkansas, Tennessee etc. A very impressive and huge country!
But Ireland is home :-)

Thanks Michael, I'll be looking for it in Easons today.
We have been busy the last couple of days dismantling (Temporarily) our Beethoven shrine, and erecting our Elvis shrine for newspapers photographers expected Tuesday. :-)
The Elvis 30th Anniversary in August is looking to be quite an event.
I'm just hoping the Beethoven-haus people get back to me this coming week about my idea.........he said, mysteriously. :-)
