This picture might be weirder than you think, Maurice. Just a wild guess, but you haven't by any chance got the picture of Dorian Gray?

      A very Wilde guess Michael

      Meanwhile an email just arrived...

      "Dear Maurice

Thank you for this. I have scoured my reference books on Beethoven --
including one devoted to portraits and busts -- and can find no mention
      of
      your picture or the artist.

It is obviously a romanticised image of him, and from other similar
      ones I
have seen I would guess it dates from around 1890 or later. If you do
      find
out more information, please do let me know.

Thank you for alerting me to the connection between the 7th Symphony
      and WoO
154/8. I seem to learn something new about this great man almost daily!

      Yours sincerely,

      John Suchet".

When it comes to being a Beethoven fan, John Suchet must be number one. I once sent him an email suggesting that his brother - David Suchet, the actor - would make an ideal Beethoven and he replied that David would jump at the chance.

Getting back to your picture, I have a book called "Beethoven - The Composer as Hero" and there are a couple of reproductions in it which would be of the type to which John Suchet refers. One shows him playing the piano while vague attractive female shapes (the Muses?) float above him.

Why don't the Muses visit me?

Not the clearest scan but worth the effort, I hope.

Michael, Yes John Suchet is quite a champion of Beethoven. Whether his brother could outdo Ed Harris as Beethoven is open to debate. He did play Maxwell quite good. How about Depardeau as Beethoven... the French actor..too big?

I keep coming across Romantic images of Beethoven and Muses as I search day by day.

Why don't the Muses visit Killarney? Too expensive

It's a little uncanny, but today Maureen my wife and I went into Dublin to see a play at the famous Abbey theatre. Arthur Miller's "The Crucible". Having time to spare we poppped into a bookshop on O'connell Street to look for Beethoven books and spotted the Classic FM magazine. The CD was included.

A friend of ours, a lecturer in the Drama dept of Mississippi University, interviewed Arthur Miller. He is also a late starter Elvis fan :-)

He will find this Beethoven portrait story quite amusing. Especially now!

Maurice, what are the chances of finding your two musical idols on the cover of the same CD??? Like that painting - it's scary!

Michael, If you only knew all the strange coincidences we have experienced because of Music you would be playing with rubber bands..or is it ball bearings?

One example not to get too far away from topic. A Today FM News editor (Elvis fan) told us to tune in for the radio station's tribute to Elvis on Elvis's birthday 8th January 1998.

1.15 PM Were were listening to the tribute, when out telephone rang and a guy with an American accent asked me if Iwould speak to the folks in Tupelo Mississippi about Elvis..it was Wizard FM broadcasting from Tupelo MS!!!

The "Elvis at 13" statue was unveiled in Tupelo 8th January 2002

Now I can post the Beethoven/Elvis CD on all the Elvis message boards

Yes Joy Not to mention "One Step Beyond" But you are probably too young to remember that TV series?

On the 14th August 1997 the Galway Advertiser printed an article about us and our Elvis story together with our love for Classical music and how we might win a trip to Graceland.

Well we did win the trip announced on RTE 1 Radio 14th August.

Elvis's mother Gladys died on the 14 of August and it is the date Helen, one of our six grandchildren, was born.

http://www.beethoven-haus-bonn.de/si..._en&_mid=Forum On another Beethoven forum there is a request for a Beethoven Calender, what would be the best time to issue one. Christmas or during the Beethoven Festival in Bonn?

Thank you for assuming I am too young to know of the program 'One Step Beyond'. Well, you are right, I am, however, I have seen it in reruns many times and some of the shows were quite good and interesting. Congratulations on your trip to Graceland. It looks like you have had quite the luck with Elvis. Hope you enjoyed your trip to America.

Yes Joy, we enjoyed our 6 Trips to the USA.
Including Beethoven's Ninth at Carnegie Hall, A senate Hearing, The White House, Twin Towers, Empire State, Tupelo MS, Arkansas, Tennessee etc. A very impressive and huge country!

                          But Ireland is home :-)

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Our country can be a bit intimidating due to size but if you plan it out you can see a lot of good things all in one area and it looks like you hit a lot of the historic and famous spots.

The new edition of BBC Music contains a free DVD for the first time - normally it's a CD. Well worth getting. Two Proms performances: Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto and Nielsen's Fourth Symphony. Excellent sound and picture.

Thanks Michael, I'll be looking for it in Easons today.

We have been busy the last couple of days dismantling (Temporarily) our Beethoven shrine, and erecting our Elvis shrine for newspapers photographers expected Tuesday. :-)

The Elvis 30th Anniversary in August is looking to be quite an event.

I'm just hoping the Beethoven-haus people get back to me this coming week about my idea.........he said, mysteriously. :-)
