    On This Day!

In 1795 Ludwig van Beethoven makes his first public appearance, performing his Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat at a concert in the Burgtheater, Vienna.

Beethoven's first two piano concerti were written in 1794 and 1795. Because they were published in reverse order, the C-major concerto from 1795 is known as "number one," whereas the B-flat major concerto from 1794 is dubbed "number two."

That was the first Vienna public appearance, but Beethoven's first public performance was much earlier in Bonn 26th March 1778.

I've been listening to the Greenberg lectures (4) about the Fifth Piano Concerto. Interesting stuff!

He's the best. I have the concertos lessons and find them so interesting. I love the way he teaches, he has a sense of humour that really is intriguing and his knowledge and the way he teaches makes his courses so informative and interesting. I highly recommend them. He has a new course out now called 'Understanding the Fundamentals of Music' which explores learning the basics of music theory, language of music, tonality, harmony, etc. Great stuff!
