I got in touch with Fred Child, the host of 'Performance Today' on NPR radio and I believe he is going to talk a little about 'Copying Beethoven' on tonight's show.

I'm beginning to think that this film will never come to Europe. I keep reading the posts here from all of you lucky people living in the USA who have been able to see it and I am sooooooo jealous.

When is this film coming to Austria? As of today there is no sign of it playing anywhere here in Vienna (at least I haven't found it playing here as of yet).

You're not alone - there seems to be a Europe bypass - ironic since it was made here!

On NPR last night Fred Child, the host of 'Performance Today' gave a very nice synopsis of 'Copying Beethoven' telling what it's about and that it has to do with the last 2 years of Beethoven's life. Also he explained the role of Anna quite nicely and how she brings out Beethoven's feelings and moods. Then they played his Violin Sonata #3.

In response to the proposed get-together, the States would be a no-go, but I’m sure Ralph Riach (Schlemmer / my father-in-law) would be delighted to trek down from Perth to East Sussex. He’s a total non-techie (no PC even!) but I’ve been keeping him up to date with this entire discussion thread – he too is delighted with all the reviews.

                Best regards,
                Helen

Have a great meeting you all! Of course I can't join, unless you come to Northern Italy. To Hollywood: It's impossible for the movie to come to Europe, it's early, at least I think so. In Italy once movies came one year later! Now not less than 6 months. We have to wait...

Would you please tell your father-in-law that I and my family and friends thoroughly enjoyed him as Schlemmer! He was wonderful and I think if I knew the real Schlemmer that's about how I would think he would have been. He was just a wonderful part of the movie.

Thank you Joy for those kind words - I will indeed pass that on to Ralph.

He asked me if you were all aware of the recent sad death of Bill Stewart, who I believe played Rudi in the film. I am not certain, but I believe he had Motor Neurone Disease.

I hope lots of you get to see the film soon (and me & Ralph!!).

                      Best wishes
                      Helen

Thank you Helen for relaying my message. I had not heard about Bill Stewart's passing, how sad.

You mean Ralph has not seen the film yet? Oh, no! Don't the actors get a copy or something?! If not, they should.

To Stephen, I was wondering if all the numbers have come in yet regarding to the success of this movie? Also will it be shown in a wider distribution anytime soon, hopefully? I, and my friends and family, could see it again!

There's a movie review site at http://www.leesmovieinfo.net/ and "Copying Beethoven" has an average rating of A. (Of course, that's based on a single review - mine).

For several days I was unable to access the site. To reply to your question:

We got very mixed critical response in the U.S., but the big ones - the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Chicago papers - praised the film. The boxoffice in the U.S. has not been good, and the limited release has been further limited. I must tell you that I have been keenly disappointed by the marketing effort for this film, which has been lackluster and unimaginative in my view. However, the film opened in Spain to very good response and has made nearly a million dollars there, which is quite remarkable for that market. It will continue opening worldwide over the next couple of months, and I will post the countries as soon as I learn them. Please have patience; we are hoping for great things abroad.

I should add that I recently learned that the soundtrack of the film is now available on amazon.com.
