    On This Day!

In 1585 -- "German sacred music composer, court organist, and conductor Heinrich Schutz is born in Kostritz. Schutz served as a link between the Italian culture of Palestrina and the Germanic culture of Bach".

Now that's what the article said about him, do you all agree that he served as a link? Any more information on him? I haven't heard much about him.

It is strange that he is so little known considering he was the most important German 17th century composer. A pupil of Gabrieli and Monteverdi, his music is modal in style. Bach may have come into contact with his music whilst a young man at Luneburg where he met Johann Lowe, a pupil of Schutz. At that time though Schutz had been long dead - he died at the amazing age for those days of 87 in 1641.
