    Beethoven's Hair

    Can someone please help me.

I am writing an article for "Quadrant"
about Beethoven's hair and Ira Brilliant.

Is there any new information available
about how the hair got to Denmark?

    Thank you.

    Regards,
    Agnes.

I'm not sure Agnes, but it is a remarkable story that must surely be linked to the Jewish exodus from Nazi Germany - Beethoven's hair ending up in 1943 in the tiny Danish fishing village of Gilleleje! I'm surprised they haven't made that into a film!

Thank you, Peter. A few weeks ago there
was a documentary shown on one of our
TV stations - and silly me - I missed it.

A Jewish refugee did bring the hair to
Denmark but I fear this person did not survive the war as no one has come forward to say it was he/she.

      Regards,
      Agnes.

I have not heard anymore since Russell Martin's book on Beethoven's Hair.

No one knows for sure but one explanation is that the grandson of Ferdinand Hiller - the family was Jewish and had changed its name from Hildesheim -- fled to Denmark to escape from the Nazis, and then gave the lock to the doctor in gratitude for getting him out. All the main protagonists are dead, and the doctor never told anyone how he came to be in possession of the lock, not even, apparently, his wife.

Thank you all for the additional information. I will have to include this
mystery in my article. Perhaps it will make
            it all the more interesting.

            Joy, how is your grandbaby?

            Regards,
            Agnes.

Hi Agnes, thanks for considering our suggestions. Hopefully we can read you article sometime, it should be very interesting.

Just for the record I have no grandchildren, perhaps you mistook me for someone else on the forum?

              Best Wishes,

              Joy

So sorry, Joy. I did mix you up with someone
else. I should check previous postings before I post.
